Shahapur
Shahapur is the largest Taluka in Thane District
in the state of Maharashtra. Most of the dams
supplying water to Mumbai are located nearby.
The nearest railway station is Asangaon which
is 85km from Mumbai CST on the central line. Shahapur
lies on the Mumbai -Nashik National Highway (No.3)
and is 90km from Mumbai. It is midway between
Mumbai and Nashik (90km. from Mumbai and 95Km
from Nasik). To reach Shahapur you may catch the
Asangaon or Kasara train from Mumbai CST on the
Central Route.
Education
Shahapur has an average literacy rate of 78%,
higher than the national average of 59.5%. Being
a taluka place Shahapur has a lot of schools and
colleges. The major schools in Shahapur are:

The only Junior College here
is the Acharya Bhise Junior College run by the
Shahapur Taluka Education Society(STES). The only
Senior college in Shahapur is the Sonubhau Baswant
College. Other than them STES has recently started
a B.Ed. college.
