Shahapur
Shahapur is the largest Taluka in Thane District in the state of Maharashtra. Most of the dams supplying water to Mumbai are located nearby.

The nearest railway station is Asangaon which is 85km from Mumbai CST on the central line. Shahapur lies on the Mumbai -Nashik National Highway (No.3) and is 90km from Mumbai. It is midway between Mumbai and Nashik (90km. from Mumbai and 95Km from Nasik). To reach Shahapur you may catch the Asangaon or Kasara train from Mumbai CST on the Central Route.

Shahapur has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Being a taluka place Shahapur has a lot of schools and colleges. The major schools in Shahapur are:

Places to visit in Shahapur are Ganga Devasthan and the Mahuli Fort.
Shahpur is of Historic importance. The Mahuli Fort was one of the strategically important during Shivaji's time.

Also Shahapur was developed by the British which is evident from the old buildings of the police Station and the Z.P. School started in 1861.
